Goedereede is a special place on the Kop van Goeree. This historic town still recalls the important place Goedereede held during the Middle Ages. Back then, this town was an important trading place with city walls. Goedereede owes its name to 'good rede,' meaning a safe harbor/anchorage for sailors. As the harbor became more and more silted, merchants left, and trade disappeared. After the polders were diked, Goedereede became a true agricultural village. In 1953, the harbor was dammed up for security reasons, making shipping to and from Goedereede no longer possible. It seems as if time has stood still in Goedereede. The old patrician houses, the travelje, the former residence of Pope Adrian, the old harbor, and the stately domed tower (magnificent view) make Goedereede a place you must see!
